So, we now know that gas lies underground in West Virginia in stratigraphic traps in extensive pools. This drawing is a view looking down from the sky and down into the ground at a pool of gas that lies underground in a stratigraphic trap. We will say is a 400-acre pool. Actually most pools under stratigraphic traps are much, much larger, but we will use a 400-acre pool for the purposes of this slide show. Not only do we know that gas lies underground in huge pools, we also know that as a rule of thumb, in pools of gas that are 6000 feet or less down into the ground, a single gas well will drain the gas out of 60 to 100 acres or more of the pool in the gas bearing strata. |
