This area of West Virginia, like most of West Virginia, has stratigraphic traps.  So Ms. Southwest is almost assured that drilling another gas well nearby into the same strata will produce another good well on her mineral interest.  So, giving appropriate space between the wells to allow for 100-acre drainage, she drills gas well #2.

For this first example, lets say well #2 is a very good producer. It is a well that will make back the money she invested in drilling the well and a whole lot more.
