Some say enabling carbon sequestration of CO2 from power plants and other industries is bad because it just delays total renewable energy. Some say it is necessary as a bridge. WVSORO says, IF it is going to be done, and indeed if it CAN be done, it should be done right. WVSORO seriously doubts West Virginia can do it right. There are serious concerns about injected supercritical pressurized CO2 finding its way to wellheads of existing nearby wells on the surface that are of questionable vintage and integrity by coming up their uncemented production casing annulus, and very serious concerns of CO2 leaking up orphaned/unknown wells, and also serious concerns if the the CO2 is injected into depleted gas formations with pressure higher than the pressure of the gas that the formation was originally able to contain. So WVSORO joined in the excellent comments put together with our help by the Appalachian Mountain Advocates for ten other concerned organizations. Here are the comments. Here are the exhibits.
You can read more about how a gas well is drilled leaving the open annulus to the wellhead on the surface. You can also read about what you should do if someone knocks on your door trying to lease/buy the pore space under you.
