The National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO) is having a town hall meeting on the buying and selling of minerals at the Doddridge County Park in West Union, WV, on May 16, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. (See attached flyer & video!) About one third of the members of the West Virginia Surface Owner’s Rights Organization (WVSORO) also own at least some interest in minerals, and we know that all mineral owners are getting lots and lots of offers to buy their minerals (which we do not generally recommend). So our members may be interested in this to learn the pros and cons! WVSORO will also be present with a table in the back and Dave McMahon, a lawyer and cofounder of WVSORO, will be there to answer questions from surface owners about any issues they may have. Issues could include warning surface owners in horizontal shale drilling country to beware of offers to buy their surface land , how much to ask for if a nearby driller wants to buy out a surface owner, how much to get for allowing a drilling pad on them etc. Or just come by to say hello!
