There is a large, Olympic swimming pool sized, pond being built on/next to my land to drill a gas well. Is there any danger from that?

While we have not heard of any of these ponds breaching, there have been a large number of slips in the impoundment walls where the impoundments have been built up on hills or maountains out of the valley.  The State has issued a directive to require better engineering and inspection of them.  The larger concern is where the water comes from, and more importantly, what becomes of this frac water when it “returns” back out of the well.  For more information on that look on our Info on Marcellus Shale page.
